27 years old Fajar Nugroho, was born in Yogyakarta July, 29th 1979. He made his own film for the first time using a handy-cam given by his father as a birthday present in 2001. People start to recognize him after the release of his first independent movie “Dilarang Mencium Di Malam Minggu” at Mataram cinema in Yogyakarta and the movie was seen by approximately 1050 people.
A year later, in 2004, Fajar released his second movie titled “Sangat Laki-laki” at the same cinema, this time was sponsored by a well known cigarette brand, Djarum.His deep interest on documentary evoked after watching Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. On March 30th, 2005 he made a movie called “Jogja Needs a Hero” and the movie was seen by 1500 people and sponsored by Sampoerna A Mild, also a very famous cigarette brand. 2005 had been a busy year for Fajar that after releasing his movie, he received a production scholarship for documentary movie from Indonesian Documentary and Ford Foundation. He was also a finalist in Eagle Award Documentary Competition held by Metro TV with his movie called “Ksatria Kerajaan” (The Kingdom’s Knights).
By the end of 2005, “Jogja Needs a Hero” was played in 8 big cities in Indonesia, and also in Jakarta Film Festival 2005. Currently, he is giving documentary workshop for High school and Undergraduate students. `This guy will rock the world!` says Akmal Nasery Basral, journalist from TEMPO Magazine.
